You see, Squirrel cared only for his own nut hoard,
so the troubles of his neighbours were always ignored.

A red squirrel spends all of his time selfishly hoarding nuts, refusing to share with the woodland creatures around him, even for a grand Christmas feast. Despite the fact that other animals have scarcely anything to eat, Squirrel only keeps the nuts for himself. On a Christmas Eve walk he encounters three wise trees, who hope to teach him a valuable lesson in time for Christmas Day.

“A Christmas Squirrel was an easy to grasp re-telling of the classic with a lot of warmth, making it the perfect story for family reading this Christmas as the story was very joyful with a strong moral message.” – Children’s author and CBeebies presenter Cerrie Burnell

“I was lucky enough to be part of the judging process as well as to illustrate the winning book and whilst the calibre of entries was wonderful, the story of a Christmas squirrel is a perfect depiction of the meaning behind A Christmas Carol. I hope readers enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed illustrating it, and I look forward to reading it to my grandchildren this Christmas.” – Children’s illustrator Ian Beck

“Mike’s story is magical and will delight families this Christmas, and I particularly like the food-sharing element of Mike’s re-telling. The tale’s link to the natural world is lovely. It is a great story of rhyme and reason.” – Taffy Thomas MBE, Britain’s first Storyteller laureate

Great Story and Great Rhyme

A lovely take on Scrooge’s change of heart, as we are served up with a sing song of a tale of how a squirrel was reminded how to give and live Christmas with his fellow forest dwellers.

Fantastic christmas book for all ages of children

I bought this book to read to my 3 year old. Its an easy book to read and the flow of the rhymes is brilliant. The story keeps the child and adult interested until the end. The pictures are good enough for older children to maybe make up their own version of the story if they cant quite read yet. A great book for all ages of children.

A wonderful Christmas book for children.

What a beautiful Christmas story for children. It puts across the meaning of the importance of sharing and giving at Christmas in the retelling of an old classic using the creatures of the woodland. It is very English in its setting and has a classic moral to the story. I love the use of the wise trees and the natural forest environment. The rhyme used throughout gives it a sing-song effect which is really engaging. The illustrations are excellent. I absolutely loved it and will take great pleasure in making it a new tradition for all of the children in my family. Brilliant!

Absolutely beautiful! Genuinely the most lovely children’s story we have come across in recent years… it’s so magical, the whole book is written in rhyme and it has a really strong moral theme. You don’t often find books of this writing calibre nowadays! My little boy adores it, we can’t recommend it enough!

Amazing book. Properly written and great rhyming. Lovely way to teach children the Dicken’s A Christmas Carol story. Bought one to read to my children and then sent one to my friend’s little girl as I loved it so much!

An absolutely heart warming rendition of a classic story with more Christmas cheer than you can shake your tinsel at! In an era of digital animation it’s great to see some wonderfully traditional illustrations which accompany the story incredibly. Mr Doodson is obviously a very talented writer and has captured the true spirit of Christmas with a unique take on this story. I look forward to seeing more from him!
