Sara is a comedian who has talked and joked about female sexuality, psychology and the media's portrayal of women on stage and screen. While researching her most recent live show, Sara realised that she had a lot more to say.

In her first book Sara combines autobiography and evolutionary history to entertain and inform about the female body. Why we have boobs and how they have become so fetishised. How the kidnap of a 13-year old-chimney sweep's daughter created our present age of consent. The discovery and subsequent forgetting of the clitoris, the many eras of misunderstanding the female orgasm. Did you know that clitorectomys were once performed on British and American women to cure masturbation and hysteria? And that we learned so much about female sexuality from the behaviour of sperm?

ANIMAL: HOW A WOMAN IS MADE aims to be entertaining and informative and personal and universal and silly about lots of things and serious about some.

This is one of the very few books that has a) taken my breath away b) left me speechless and c) made me want to shout out from the rooftops just how bloody great it is – all at the same time.

This book has brought issues to my mind that I didn’t even know we’re issues. It’s made me question behaviours that I really should have questioned years ago. And- one of the most important qualities of any book- it has made me think. I saw Sara’s stand up over a year ago and was so struck by how she mananged to pair her intelligence and humour in such a thought-provoking way. She did a piece on Page 3 and female nudity that just changed something in my mindset and sent me off on an exploration into the world of feminism, consent and patriachy. I was so pleased when her book ‘Animal’ came out and boy did it provide fuel for my brain-fire. I am a biologist and a woman, so of course found the book interesting but everyone knows a woman and everyone knows a human with a body so I feel I’m probably not the only person who will find a connection to the subject matter. She talks frankly and openly like one of my mates….like one of my really energetic wine-fuelled excited mates, and I love her for it! Because she is putting across major issues regarding feminism, the female body, psychology and social behaviour in such an accessible and relevant way. I’ve bought 5 copies of this book as Christmas presents because I feel it’s so important for everyone- women and men- to read. Thank you Sara for challenging my thinking, raising awareness of important subjects like consent and encouraging me to question social norms. I can’t wait to read more from such an exciting brain!

A recommended read. So much I’d never thought through about how woman regard themselves and are regarded. Very topical now with the #metoo debate. Feminism has come far but Sara’s book highlights how much needs to be done to change the attitudes of generations of male run society. Intelligent, but with a light touch. Laugh out loud too, and searingly honest.

Hilarious, touching, funny, factual and all written in that Pascoe style her fans enjoy so much. Would recommend – great read on holiday and keep annoying your partner to tell them another funny or interesting tit bit!

A brilliant book from start to finish. Honest, relateable and funny. I lost track of how many times I read parts out to my husband, would have been easier to just give him the book once I was done. An important read for anyone growing up or who thinks they’re as grown up as they’ll ever be.

Brilliant

Really interesting, enjoyed reading it and have recommended it to so many friends. Some parts are hard to read but Sara writes these sections sympathetically and quite passionately.
