Really helpful

There’s a sense in which you don’t know you need to read a book like this until you’ve read it. I would recommend that any Christian read this book as it is really helpful in understanding not just church history but world history and the role of Christians throughout it. For me, it gave me much food for thought in relation to how I view the church and the world and how I should respond to the challenges that both face. Most helpfully though, this book points consistently to Jesus and reminds us that church history is fundamentally about how we respond to to who He is.

Excellent survey of Christian history

Shelley notes that ‘surely one of the most remarkable aspects of Christianity today is how few of these professed believers have ever seriously studied the history of their religion.’ I definitely belong to this category, and I certainly regret not studying the history of Christianity earlier.

Wide and deep

A simple look at the history of Christianity, fair though as a catholic I felt that 50% of christian were largely ignored after the reformation but an alternative view was the reason for reading this book.

Great Book/ Great Help!!

I purchased this book for revision purposes, specifically for a Church History Exam. And it helped me to be able to pass it, as it explain this in modern, understandable english, which is easy to remember and was great support for me. It is just as detailed as other perhaps more awkward books. I completely recommend this to anyone who is studying church history, or if you have an interest in reading about it.

Good introduction to Church History

This was a recommended text book for a Church History course I am teaching in London this Autumn. It is a very readable though comprehensive account of church history from the early church to fairly recently. Well worth a read to understand the culture and environment in which the church has grown.
