"The best political thriller I have read in a long time, right up there with the very best of David Baldacci."
–Michael Palmer, bestselling author of THE SOCIETY

"Grossman has done a lot of research on everything from political infighting to clandestine military operations, and he manages to hold reader interest right up to the inevitable conclusion."
–Publisher's Weekly

An assassin takes aim at a Presidential candidate during a primary stump speech. The instant he pulls the trigger, the outcome of the election is irrevocably changed. But Democrat Teddy Lodge, an upcoming media sweetheart, isn't killed. His wife is. As a result, Lodge emerges as the man to beat and the greatest threat to the incumbent President, Morgan Taylor. Under a specific directive from the President, Special Service Agent Scott Roarke delves into the case and begins to unravel a deadly plot that incubated for more than 30 years; designed to alter America's allegiances in the Middle East. From the very first page, Executive Actions culls events from today's headlines intersecting with a scenario that's shockingly real: An insidious plot hatched in the old days of the Soviet Union continues to grow to fruition in the hands of a power hungry Middle East heir to the throne. At its core, a sleeper is awakened to take a prominent role in American Life. Executive Actions is a tense political thriller; an election year page-turner, where both the Presidency and the Constitution are at stake.

Good political thriller

This is the first book I have read by Gary Grossman and I have already bought the next in series. This is quite a long book with a rather slow start where we meet the characters and learn a great deal about their past. Because I listened to this book on audible and because the story moved from place to place and person to person I found I had some difficulty in remembering each character, particularly since some of the Arab names sounded similar to me. However the narrator John McLain did a great job differentiating between the different characters and I don’t think this would be a problem when actually reading the book. Here we have a story of a long standing plot, originating in the Cold War but transferring to the present day political situation and now being masterminded and paid for by parties in Libya. Sleepers have been trained and put in place and now, as the American election is about to take place, the plan is on the verge of success. To halt this, we are introduced to a gun ho president, an experienced undercover operative and a cast of spies, government department heads and legal eagles. The fast and furious action is contained in the last third of the book, but the uncovering of the plot is very engaging.

a ripping yarn

I am actually about 75% of the way through this book and I can hardly put it down. While it may not be a literary phenomenon it is an absorbing, ripping yarn in my opinion with the thrill that it could actually possibly happen. The pace is just right, my only criticism is that I keep forgetting who some of the characters are as the story necessarily jumps from location to location a lot. However, unusually for an American conspiracy story I appreciate the meaning of all the security agencies initials being explained in full. I am so pleased I have bought more by this author and have them yet to read and enjoy.

It does stretch the imagination but its a good read on a wet afternoon

This is the first book I have read by this author and for the most part it was a gripping story. There was much in it that could have been left out with little no effect on the plot. It is very much an update to The Manchurian Candidate but I will say no more than this in order not to spoil it for the new reader. It stretches incredulity at time as our hero seems to flit all over the world performing gung-ho actions with aplomb and seamless energy. OK. It does stretch the imagination but its a good read on a wet afternoon.

A page turner.

A well-written page turner of a book. Once you start reading you will not want to put it down, and when you do leave it you cant wait to get back to see what is happening next. It is very detailed regarding protocols within the F.B.I., the American Secret Service , Homeland Security etc which one assumes is well researched and authentic. A blockbuster of its genre.

This is a new author to me and I found the plot intriguing, I am following up with Executive Treason, the story is quite believable and is a reminder of the shennanigans played out in the cold war era with reference to the present day.

The first book I’ve read by this author but defiantly not my last!

The attention to detail and the ability to bring together the story in real time in different countries and different scenarios although at first confusing actually made it more intense! A few unfinished threads that leave you wondering but not frustrated!
