Although I have used a camera for many years, firstly 35mm and then digital, I never really understood the relationship between the three setting of aperture, speed and ISO. This book has explained in simple terms how they interact and what each does. After reading it through I began to pick out various chapters and worked with the manual settings on my camera to explore these relationships. After many hours of trial and error and reference to the text I feel that I can now set up a shot with reasonable (if basic) skill, without resorting to the tried and tested Auto setting and flash. I look forward to some better weather so that I can go out and try a few real photographs based on my new understanding and hope that my photography improves. Well written, simple descriptions and good basic information.

Well worth the purchase.

This book is spot on for the amateur or beginner photographer who would like to do a lot more than just take snaps. I was impressed by how simple it can be to improve your photography, even to the point of capturing lightening. It also pointed out all the little mistakes I’d been making over the years. Included are helpful illustrations, showing the before and and after affects being put into practice. There are also links included to different cameras, tripods and other photo equipment and lots of helpful advice on what you need for the type of photograph you want. All in all I thought this one of the best books on digital photography out there. Well worth the purchase.

Cameras are everywhere, and everywhere are people making images. But I’d guess over 90% of all pictures taken use the automatic or pre-set features of the camera. They guarantee capturing an image but often they are bland/samey/not how you remembered seeing the scene or object. To breakout of mediocrity any camera enthusiast needs to master exposure and its three components – aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Once you are in control of your camera and these setting you can really let your creative juices flow and make different, exciting, unusual, eye-catching images – and you don’t have to have a really expensive camera to achieve these results.

Excellent tome and lots of ideas.

I’m a good photographer. Just get that out of the way up front. So why would I buy a book on exposure? I’ll tell you why – because you get so used to doing it your way and produce good results that, I anyway don’t always look beyond what I know well. This book has definitely given me back my experimental approach to exposure. Well written, loads of ideas and with easy to understand explanations makes it a book a snapper should have.

Good introduction to photographic exposure

This book has given me inspiration to experiment with new photographic techniques. Though there are some basic concepts that I already understood, I have also learned some new techniques to experiment with and would recommend this book to beginners and amateur photographers alike. Some methods could have done with expanding upon with examples but experimentation is the name of the game with photography and this book isn’t written for any specific camera make.

Good explanation of what a camera can do and how you can exploit this by adjusting the key exposure components. This book provides just the essential things you need without making it complex to understand.

Exposure Mastery is well written, concise and thoroughly readable. Brian covers the technical elements of photography in a simple way, but without being patronising to the reader and outlines the techniques required to improve the quality of the photographs. Well done.

Excellent. The book explains exposure in a language that doesn’t require a masters degree to understand it. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn to have more control over picture taking, and the effects of different settings.

Beginner or intermediate photographer this is for you.

If you are a beginner then this will provide a straight forward insight into exposure; if you are a good photographer then this will provide a reminder of the essential basics of achieving the right exposure with the required depth of field.
