The FIre 8 HD is a great tablet. Although there are some drawbacks. It runs on Fire OS not Android. Therefore, you are limited to the apps that you can install. It’s worth checking before buying if your favourite apps can run on it. I was a little disappointed with quickness and smoothness of the tablet. Somehow I expected it to be as good as my phone (which is over three times the price).

Not top for book reading.

I have this kindle to replace the one which went accidentally into the washing machine! As a kindle to download and read books I have found it tricky, to buy is fine, downloading can take ages and doesn’t always seem to happen, and when I was on holiday without WiFi tri tapped on a book I was already reading next leaving home and I was told that it was protected by DRM and to take it out of my kindle and down loaded it again or ‘re buy it, could not do that as I was not connected to wifi, I will at some point make a call request to sort it as going to the help pages I find a minefield, I really do want a simpler life! Other than the loss of being able to have that instant chat line which I had with the previous kindle I like this one very much, Amazon really need to tighten up the book reading process I’m not at all happy with that.

Brilliant!

This is an improvement on my previous HD Fire Kindle (2nd? generation) not least that it support more apps as well as carrying my books and music.

I bought this to replace my nexus 7 (2012) which had become unstable since an android update. I was a bit nervous buying this as I am an android user on my phone as well and I wanted the same operating system. My wife has a kindle fire hd 7 1st generation and it has improved a lot recently.

Great upgrade from Kindle 7 but not too big
