WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE Do not put this book down. I'm dead serious – your life could depend on it. I'm risking everything by telling you – but you need to know.

STRAP YOURSELF IN for the thrill ride you'll want to take again and again! From Death Valley, California, to the bowels of the New York City subway system, you're about to take off on a heart-stopping adventure that will blow you away…

YOUR FAITHFUL COMPANIONS: Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, the Gasman and Angel. Six kids who are pretty normal in most ways – except that they're 98% human, 2% bird. They grew up in a lab, living like rats in cages, but now they're free. Aside, of course, from the fact that they're prime prey for Erasers – wicked wolf-like creatures with a taste for flying humans.

THE MISSIONS: Rescue Angel from malicious mutants. Infiltrate a secret facility to track down the flock's missing parents. Scavenge for sustenance. Get revenge on an evil traitor. And save the world. If there's time.

If your youngster is fed up of Harry Potter and does not want to read Andy McNab or Anthony Horowicz then this is maybe the book for them. My son loved it and has read it ten times or more. He cried at the end the first time he read it and he doesn’t usually get moved by books at all. It’s a story that moves at break neck pace and there are three parallel stories – the one that hooked me the most was the story of what happens to Angel in the lab. Of course, as an adult you can see where the strings are being pulled; Angel, your six year old sister, being bullied? What big brother wouldn’t want to rescue her? Contemporary issues are explored here: genetic testing, cloning, etc. It also explores ideas of loyalty and friendship. It’s a bit too American at times for my taste, but it is a gripping story nonetheless and I can see why my son enjoyed it so much. It would be a great buy for a reluctant reader too, because the chapters are very short (2 sides on average), the print is largeish and the voccabulary is simple. Sentences are short and very easy to understand.

I had this book on my bookcase for a few years before I read it and now wish i’d read it sooner! This is a story about Max who is 98% human 2% bird. She has wings and she can fly along with her ‘flock’ of five other bird children. After the youngest in their flock gets kidnapped by a group of half wolf half men the flock have to save her from the evil scientists at the ‘School’; the school is where they were created and locked in cages for most of their lives until they were finally set free by Jeb who went missing and is now presumed dead. The story takes you to the Colarado mountains to Arizona to New York. The story is action packed the whole way through and you just cant put the book down. I fell in love with Max and her snappy narrative. The way the book is written you really do feel like you are there sharing the experience with the flock. i was worried that it would be a sci-fi book that i wouldn’t enjoy but i was plesently suprised as, apart from the whole flying/wings thing there really wasnt that much of an unbelievable story that you know was totally unrealistic.

Although slow to start off with once you get into it you don’t want to put it down. If you haven’t read his previous books When the Wind blows and The Lake house you won’t understand how these kids came to where they are now. I would say to read these first before reading this as you might find a little boring. I bought this book not even knowing that it exsisted but I am glad I did. Definately one to read. I hope there is a follow on to this!!!!
