Allow yourself to sit and be taken back in time to the vintage days of Formula 1, before the massive sponsorship deals and the lengthy, confusing rulebooks of modern motor racing, to a time when it was just talented young men and machines battling each other for dominance on the track. These are the stories of some of the greatest unsung heroes to ever take the driver seat, the motor sport biographies of famous people who, though brilliant, never made it to be household names for one reason or another.

For anybody with an interest in Formula 1 or motor racing in general, this is a must read. Containing the short biographies of famous people from all over the world, including Dan gurney and Mark Donohue, this catalogue of heroes in the driver seat includes some of the most fearless young men in the world.
Many of the most daring subjects of motor sport biographies met tragic ends doing what they were best at, and here they are remembered as they deserve to be, as champions in the battle between men and machines on the race track. To get a first glimpse at their amazing stories, check out the LOOK INSIDE feature today.

An interesting book about a period of motor racing where safety was not on the organisers radar as it is today. It’s well written and gives a good insight into what F1 was all about in the 60’s and 70’s. We’ve heard about Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart and the great Jimmy Clark, but we sometimes forget that they were not on the grid by themselves. The book covers a selection of drivers who were taking part in those days and who came from different parts of the world. This gives a good insight into the fact that F1 was international even back then. The book is interesting in that it also talks, be it briefly, about the cars they raced and how it was tough even then to succeed if you were not in the right machinery. I enjoyed the final summary or reflections as it is called, where the author gives us his views on what very often could have been. We are reminded that racing accidents back then were not just a few nights in hospital. It permanently robbed us of gifted drivers. A short but good read.

so just accept and enjoy what is basically an entertaining read

Where do I start ? On balance something that is different. It flows and covers a period that I also share a knowledge of, be it mainly through other books.

I bought this book for my husband who has a interest in Formula 1, after reading it, he said that he thought that the Author provides a review of a number of drivers in Formula 1 by recounting insights about their style of driving and the technology used. The book is a personal and readable set of reflections on some of the most interesting Formula 1 drivers of their time.
