Once a week, Rosie Tipcott counts her blessings.

She goes to sit on her favourite bench on the north Devon cliffs, and thanks her lucky stars for her wonderful husband, her mischievous young daughters, and her neat little house by the sea. She vows to dedicate every waking hour to making her family happy.

But then her husband unexpectedly leaves her for another woman and takes the children. Now she must ask the question: what is left in her life? Can Rosie find the strength to rebuild herself? More importantly, does she even want to?

This was the first book I’ve read by this author and I couldn’t put it down. Between work and Christmas preparations it was finished within three days and I was completely captured by its story. Rosie, a mother and wife who thought life was sorted for her but it was turned upside down when her husband left. It portrayed the battle she had with becoming a single mother and doing what she felt was right for her children.

I read this book in 48 hours which is unheard of for me and especially at the moment when I’m up to my eyeballs in building work – but Amanda Prowse gave me the escape I needed and so for two days I lived in Woolcombe and Rosie was (is) my new best friend!!

A marriage in ruins; a happy solution.

When you live vicariously, mainly recognising yourself as someone’s child, someone’s parent, or someone’s sibling, it can obscure the person you are, so that when Rosie, after years of being Phil’s wife and Naomi and Leona’s mum, suddenly found herself having to forge a new identity, she floundered unbearably, and didn’t know how to cope.

Worth a read.

What can I say? I have found a new author to read and my TBR pile has just got bigger. I downloaded this book on the recommendation of #TBConFB and am I glad I did. A story that a lot of women can relate to either personally or through someone they know. At first I saw some of me in Rosie, mum of two, slightly overweight and juggling life, but that’s where the similarities stopped. At times I found it hard to like her, however, the fact that events in the story made me cry made me realise that actually she is a likeable character and I found myself hoping for that happy ending that she so desperately wanted and needed. Phil, on the other hand, I could of happily slapped, sorry. An emotional story that you can relate to. Worth a read.

Good grief this book is amazing! The author is so clever with the way she gives you the story and takes you on a wild roller coaster of emotion. It builds slowly at the start and you find yourself wondering whether you should put it down. Then from nowhere she dumps a ton of absolute chaos and heartbreak onto her character Rosie. I was a teary mess over a herbal tea whilst reading this! Very satisfying ending too!

Rosie and Phil are childhood sweethearts now married with children in a seaside town, earning a living, enjoying their family life, getting by. For now.

Another excellent read by this author

I’m so glad that I recently discovered this author. Her books are about characters with real issues we all face. This book particularly touched me & I felt a real connection with the main character Rosie. Rosie is a loving mother & wife, happy with her ‘lot’, until it all comes crumbling down. She faces a lot of heartache & I felt her despair, especially when support wasn’t offered by some of those she trusted the most. Look forward to the next novel!
