Exploding onto the world stage in 1991 with their multi-platinum first album, Ten, Pearl Jam courted controversy and conflict. They won credibility with their astounding second album, Vs., in 1993, which became the fastest-selling American album of all time. In Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder: None Too Fragile, Martin Clarke brings to life the band's tumultuous history; from their beginnings amidst Seattle's grunge underground, through the excesses and pressures of superstardom, to their current incarnation as mature rock heavyweights.

Although the book is is very readable it only takes a chapter or so for you too realise the author draws heavily on other pieces written about the band, especially the Rolling Stones articles. You would have too be a real fan to buy this if you have already got Kims 5 against one or Mick Walls Pearl Jam. It does have some new pictures though I had not seen before.

Informative, but Eddie-worshipping

This book very much deserves the ‘and Eddie Vedder’ in the title, it sorta portrays him as a tortured genius. Not saying he doesnt deserve to be spoken of but the other members hardly get a mention. Mike, for example, is given a single paragraph to talk about years of serious drug addiction. The events are all quite well informing, definately worth a read, just don’t end up martyring Eddie…

recommend it
