A lovely story written by a new author certainly more mature than her age (I believe she is eleven). If this first attempt is anything to go by you will soon be getting a (very rare) 5*s from me. Keep up the good work!

Sarah is a teenager whose passion is the plight of the Caspian seals. She befriends a young man who knows many of them individually and has given them names. You can feel her horror and anguish as she finds individuals dead – one with a bullet wound.

Sarah is a fourteen-year-old girl who develops a passion for Caspian seals, after her family move to Azerbaijan. The story is a touching tale of the relationship Sarah builds with the species and her heartache when she learns that they’re at risk of extinction.

A Beautiful but Sad Story

As I read this story, I found myself drawn in to the world of the young girl, Sarah and her love of the seals she wanted to save. At the same time, I marvelled at the beauty of the writing, especially as I knew how young the writer was. There is a maturity and lyrical quality there that promises that this young writer is going to be a great writer in the future if she continues along this road – and I hope she does. I look forward to reading the novels of Courtenay Hereward in future years.

Food for thought!

This is a very thought provoking tale. This young author has really considered action to care for the environment as well as writing a satisfying story. I look forward to seeing what Courtney Hereward writes and publishes in the future!
