I am a very keen fitness fanatic and dancer, having been part of a street dance crew for the past few years and now moving on to styles such as house and vogue.

I got this book because I’ve been trying a bit of dance as part of the long road back to fitness.

Very good guide to performing street dance moves…

My mother would have loved this book and to be honest so do I. She trained as a dancer and would have seen this approach to teaching dance as a very useful way of allowing people to explore dance. The use of QR boxes to access demonstration video’s of the described dances is a very good way of getting a feel for the rhythm and pattern of the dance that you don’t get from a dry foot placement chart and photos because it can’t really describe the dynamic the rest of your body should be in. It can be inferred, but so much better to see it in real time to music. I’ve got two left feet on backwards and more niggly rugby injuries from decades ago that make it difficult to tie my laces, let alone throw myself about with abandon, but after being dragged to numerous dance recitals/events over fifty years I do appreciate the skills that people possess and marvel at their ability to interpret musical form and this is a very good descriptive analysis of street dance. There are some really excellent photos and illustrations. If you want to learn the mechanics and a bit of the history of street dance this is a very good book.

With children who love the whole StreetDance movement, this couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s a great book, carefully laid out in sections according to different dance styles.

A lot of fun, as well as highly instructive

Street dance is so popular these days and this is a very good, clearly presented guide to the moves of five different styles. The illustrations are in full colour and very easy to follow and the ability to scan in codes so you can watch video clips of the moves is brilliant, making this a very wide-ranging, interactive manual that’s a lot of fun, as well as highly instructive. Good stuff.

Street Dance is a softcover book, clearly laid out, well illustrated using clear photographs and easily understood text that links to specially recorded YouTube videos that show you the moves in action. The combination of step-by-step photos with online videos to learn the dance moves works very well.

Learning to dance by reading a book is not dissimilar to taking exercise by watching a video.
