First book in the popular, bestselling Barbara Marr Murder Mystery Series.
Film lover Barbara Marr is a typical suburban mom living the typical suburban life in her sleepy little town of Rustic Woods, Virginia. Typical, that is until she sets out to find the missing link between a bizarre monkey sighting in her yard and the bone chilling middle-of-the-night fright fest at the strangely vacant house next door. When Barb talks her two friends into some seemingly innocent Charlie’s Angels-like sleuthing, they stumble upon way more than they bargained for and uncover a piece of neighborhood history that certain people would kill to keep on the cutting room floor.

237 pages of laugh-out-loud fun.

If you like larks and have a keen sense of humour then this is a great book for you. It’s original, it has great characters, the dialogue is sparse but honest and it’s true to life. It’s a lark, a crazy, mixed-up throwback to the days when hoods were hoods and the body-count stayed low. In fact, I don’t think anyone dies in this one. Hospitalised yes, dead no. I started off not expecting too much, it was a freebie after all, but by the middle I was hooked, to such an extent that the second half was read in a single sitting. I shall be buying (yes, parting with cash) more from this lady, a new name but definitely looks like one well worth following.

Don’t let the title put you off! I have had this on my kindle a while as the title put me off but what a mistake that was. This book is BRILLIANT, easily one of the best it it’s genre that I have read. It’s a black comedy of sorts and parts of it made me chuckle (can’t stand that word but it describes the way I laughed) with characters you instantly like and are interested in and a very clever plot. I couldn’t wait to get back to reading this and then I didn’t want to put it down. It was well written, the plot flowed and I sometimes I forgot I was reading as it almost felt like I was there. I was so impressed with this book that I’ve downloaded the rest of Karen’s books and am looking forward with relish to read them. Very glad I read this as I now have another author to add to my collection of writers I know won’t disappoint.

If you want a fun read then Take The Monkeys And Run will suit you nicely. Barb Marr is not dealing well with her husband moving out to get “more space” when strange nocturnal goings on in the empty house next door arouse her curiosity. That and the monkeys in her garden the next morning encourage her to investigate. After that general mayhem ensues.

Feisty Barbara Marr investigates

I’ve had this book waiting to be read fo a year; finally took it up last week and found it quite difficult to put down. It’s an adventure story about a middle-aged American “mom” who has very unexpectedly been ditched by her George Clooney lookalike husband Howard. Something wierd happens in the next-door house and suddenly there are monkeys in her trees. What is going on? Why are the neighbours afraid to say anything about a house which has been empty for 29 years? Feisty Barbara Marr investigates, and gets into a fix.

What a surprise!

Wow, I downloaded this because it was cheap and had won an award (as I recall)…and I really enjoyed it! It was different and had great characters and a great plot. What fun! I really look forward to other books from this author. And I am not even a relative or a friend…I just stumbled on this book while looking for cheap Kindle books on amazon, and it is one of my best reads of the year! Seriously! Every sentence in the book was written so well. Well done, whoever you are! I was really taken by surprise by this one. I am having fun with my Kindle, discovering authors I would never have read but for the fact that I can download them cheaply and easily to my Kindle. This book was the best of the lot (so far).

This started off differently from the usual crime book, but it entertained me from the start and kept me reading. I don’t usually review the books I read, but felt compelled with this one as it was so good..
