Lovely book, it doesn’t cover everything ever but I really like that it is a combination of cake recipes and decorating methods. A lovely clear, accessible tone and nice bright pictures.

A good overview book

I hoped for a few more pictures, but a good book covering all the basics. Useful recipes with adjustments for different size and shape tins. There aren’t loads of specific decorating ideas, mostly general principles, but a great entry level book.

I absolutely love the layout and style of this book. I am quite good at making basic sponge cakes but absolutely useless at decorating – the children know not to ask me for anything fancy for their birthdays! But Juliet writes in such a positive, down-to-earth way, I might actually be tempted to try. There are loads of little tips and ideas as well as the recipes themselves that Fancy Nancy use in their cakes. A definite cake bible for me!

Just brilliant I can’t fault it

It’s a must have book.. I’ve recently started baking. And it shows you the right ingredient for different cake tin sizes. How to use dowels. Even shows you through pictures as well as a description. Just brilliant I can’t fault it. I was able to make a cake a promised to do for a christen for my first attempt I’m pretty impressed. This book really helped with the stacking etc as I wasnt 100% how that worked.

Happy baking

Delightfully presented book and a joy to pick up and peruse. I bought this as a novice to icing to pick up the basic principles and techniques. The book is a good all-rounder for beginners to experienced cake decorators. However, i would have preferred more pictures and more coverage of the basics as a first-time book for icing. It lacks simple step-by-step instruction and pictures. Seem to have to read through a bigger icing project to get to the basics. I would certainly recommend this book as a great baking companion but am now looking for a beginners guide to icing techniques.

Inspires me to bake

Beautifully set out book with clear instructions and inspiring photo’s. I’m not a confident baker of cakes but Juliet’s book is so easy to follow, with such great results, that the kids and I will be trying out some of these recipes for sure! I only wish the pages were ‘scratch and sniff’ too 😉
