Charlie Fry is football mad. He sleeps wearing his team’s full kit and dreams of scoring the winning goal in an FA Cup final.

He plays football around the clock – at the park, on the way to school, at lunchtimes and even in his bedroom until his mum tells him off.

But Charlie has a problem: he can’t run very far. He has plenty of skill but his poorly lungs stop him from sprinting.

And as an 11-year-old planning to become the Golden Boot winner at the next World Cup, that’s a bit of an issue.

Then one day a freak accident presents Charlie with a unique goal-scoring gift – it means he can’t miss.

But can Charlie convince his local team Hall Park to give him the chance and use his new found skill to deadly effect?

Or will the nasty bullies from his school keep him stuck on the sidelines?

The Football Boy Wonder is a story about friendship, loyalty, believing in yourself, and, of course, football.

It is aimed at children aged 7-13. It looks at themes such as bullying, friendship, loyalty and the wonderful world of football.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I feel it would be suitable for any child with not only an interest in football but sports in general. The friendship theme and moral messages are well told and make it an excellent read.

Lovely story for young football fanatics.

This book was a lovely read for my son and I to share. My son has only just turned 7 years old but was hooked on the story the whole way through. The chapters are fairly short so ideal to read a couple each evening before bed. One theme that my son really enjoyed was the frienship that Charlie shared with his footballing mates. He was also very excited every time a goal was scored! We are going to buy the Demon Football Manager next, once the reward chart is full!

Amazing story, just the ticket for children who love the loyalty/bullying theme, bravery, football, struggling against the odds and a good dose of mystery and achievement. This was the book that has finally got our 10 year old son reading by himself. I started reading it to him and then he finished it as he just couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. Martin Smith – thank you!

A must read for young football fans

I bought this for my 11 year old son who absolutely loved it. I had been trying to bring the fun back into reading for him and I picked this for him as he’s a football fanatic. He loved it and wants me to buy the next one. He did mention though that there were a few typos, but that didn’t spoil it for him.

I have been searching high and low for a well written football book. There are quite a few football books for young children but I’ve found them to be so badly written and not something that I’ve taken great pleasure in readin to my children. This is different; we were all captivated in the first chapter and that, I think, has a lot to do with the quality of the writing style. We also loved the fact that the hero of the story has his own health battles but in spite of these he is determined to play his favourite sport. We have just come to the end of the book and have immediately ordered the next in the series. We have recommended the book to our friends, who were also keen to find something just a little bit (a lot!) better than everything else that is out there. My daughter, aged 8, loved it just as much as her football crazy brother, aged 6. Please write more Martin, we can’t get to the end of the next one without buying the next one in the series!! Thank you for this amazing book.

This book arrived before estimated delivery. Purchased for my grandson who loves playing football so I’m sure he will enjoy it as he’s the same age as the character in the book. I am really pleased with the buying experience and would recommend both the product and seller.

Good book!

Think my grandson will love this as he’s football mad. I like the fact that bullying is part of this story as he has been subjected to some of this. I hope it will help him to realise that bullies are certainly not clever, they’re mean and cowardly.
