"A gripping thriller wrapped inside the world of celebrities and terrorism… A must read" – Suspense Magazine

American movie star Scarlett Cox and her husband, hotel tycoon Salvador Brazza, head to Africa to get away and resuscitate their ailing marriage. When robbed of their money and passports, they seek help from the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam on the very day Al Qaeda chooses to bomb it. In an eyeblink they are taken hostage and whisked across the border deep into the Congo, one of the last truly wild places left on earth.

Battling terrorists, deadly wildlife, and cannibalistic rebels, Scarlett and Sal must find a way to survive in a violent, primeval world. And the only person who may be able to save them is the assassin sent to kill them.

Interview with the Author
Q – So, who are your favorite authors and why?
A – I grew up reading all the big names in horror like Stephen King and Dean Koontz and James Herbert and Clive Barker. I’ve also always enjoyed Bentley Little and Richard Laymon. Recently I'm getting into some new names like Bobby Adair and Joe Hill and Blake Crouch.

Why do I like them? The answer to that is pretty simple. They write fantastic horror stories that check all the boxes: realistic characters, real chills, lurking dread, danger, lightning-fast pacing, plots full of twists and turns. And they also experiment with other genres, mixing horror with sci fi, psychological suspense, crime thrillers, and so forth.

Q – What other books do you have available?
A – I started out writing in the suspense genre with White Lies. Then I moved on to action/adventure with The Taste of Fear. However, now I am firmly in the horror game. They are as follows in order of publication:

– White Lies
– The Taste of Fear
– Suicide Forest
– Black Canyon
– The Catacombs
– Helltown (coming soon)

Q – So, why should readers give these books a try?
A – Because they are fast and fun and include quite a few surprises and scares (and the occasional touch of humor). They have hit the top ten bestsellers list in Kindle’s Suspense/Thriller/Horror categories, and they have been been featured in Amazon's Thrillers 100 Must Reads list.

I couldn’t put this book down, it is 2,30am and I had to finish reading before I could go to sleep, I will look out for more Jeremy Bates books as this was a good thriller, I have found another good author to follow,

With all the free material out there I won’t read something if it doesn’t grab me in the first few pages. This passed the test. It was better than the reviews I had read prior to downloading it. I wouldn’t say it was a classic but it gripped me enough to want to pick it up when I had a free moment.

“A frighteningly good thriller”

I think what helps to lift this story above the rest is the way in which the tension and the terror grows. Things start slowly as we meet Scarlett the actress and her husband and entrepreneur Sal. The fire that destroyed part of the luxury hotel his firm were building in Dubai might have been an accident after all, surely someone wouldn’t have a reason to want him dead?

Really good book

This is the 1st Jeremy Bates book I’ve read and I thought it was great. I was only half way through when I had already recommended it to people at work. The story kept my interest from start to finish. Fast paced with twists and turns it was hard to put down. The way Jeremy writes about the characters, locations and even the elements really helps to pull you in to the journey embarked on.

An excellent book full of action.

I purchased this book by mistake and I’m so glad I did. Thoroughly enjoyed it. It is packed with action and so many twists and turns it was difficult to put down. I will be reading more of Jeremy Bates books, and if they are all of the standard of The Taste of Fear, I will be in for some very enjoyable hours of reading.

Gripping story.

This story started off at a medium pace, but soon accelerated to a sprint. It stayed that way for m o st of the book. The violence was very well done and in context to the overall story. Quite a few twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes. Definitely worth a read.

Brilliant

Shame I could only give five stars. This book had me gripped from start to finish. It’s fast paced and a good story line. Everything a thriller should be. I particularly liked the author’s attention to detail I:E with not everyone speaking “American” English.

Keeps you turning the pages

Worth a read. This book does keep you turning the pages and even though the situation the characters find themselves in is a little beyond the expected it manages to pull it all together and leave you not that sure of the outcome. I liked it well. Action packed.
