When the body of a beautiful and popular senior head cheerleader, Melissa Cooley, is found brutally stabbed to death at the local high school it sends the small coastal community in North Carolina into a frenzy.

To make matters worse…another body is found.

A slacker boy by the name of Ronald Marks is found hanging from the field goal post on the football field only a day later. Pamlico County native Detective Carma Jones and her partner Harold Green set out on a search for this ruthless assailant who is wrecking havoc in a normally peaceful community.

No one is safe and everyone is a suspect.

The twists and turns along the way lead them in a direction Carma would’ve never guessed. One filled with deep secrets that were meant to stay buried…

Good Plot Great Heroine Well Told Tale

 on 16 November 2014
By Elmer Nash
I enjoyed this – what I loosely term Yankee (no disrespect intended whatsoever) murder story because I’m fascinated by the accents, they are so American and lovely! Set in and around the local High School with football teams and cheer leading shenanigans! – I’d never heard of Pamlico before and it sounds delightful, all the gossip sounds just like Waltham Abbey where you can’t blow your nose without someone asking ‘is your cold any better yet?’ Carma is a great detective, I like her personality, she’s ready to jump to conclusions a bit too quickly and in some cases erroneously, headstrong and beautifully bold. I adored Harold and I already miss him, Kristen is ok and Rob, he’s very well described – a real Mr. Mean and Nasty. It could do with a bit more flesh on the bones but I understand it’s the first crime story from Ms Messenger and the style is there so the stories will just get bigger and better. Thanks so much for taking time and trouble to write for people just like me – I’m full of admiration for your skill and tenacity…

First class

After reading reviews of the second in the series I was a little reluctant to read this, as the reviews said the second book just finished off this one. I realise authors want to make money but surely writing a book to its conclusion is far more likely to encourage a following. I never purchase a second book from authors that use that practice. Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I got to know some of the characters, got a feel for the community and though I knew who done it halfway through it didn’t spoil the book. Carma it seems returns to her old stomping ground two years later in the follow up and I look forward to reading it shortly. In my opinion, have a read of this and make up your own mind, don’t be put off by reviews, including mine, and I’m sure like me you will be glad you did. Great start to a series!

Absolutely Amazing Book,

I am so glad I chose this book to read, I have found so many excuses to find the time to read this as I couldn’t bring myself to put it down. The storyline was gripping from start to finish with many twists and turns along the way. I would definitely recommend this book as it is an excellent read and although the storyline is detailed it is easy to pick it back up after a few days away and remember exactly where things are up to. Thank you for writing this fabulous story and I look forward to reading the next one.

Excellent Murder Mystery

This is not a happily ever after book and there are some very dark moments in it. The story itself is good and the spelling is fine. The grammar, however seems to switch inappropriately from the past tense to the present tense and back again with annoying frequency. I don’t profess to be an expert on grammar but being a long time reader of excellent literature the suspect grammar grates when it occurs. If you are able to overlook this aspect you will not find this a disappointing read and I found it a real page turner with a particularly chilling killer on the loose.

Not having read this author before I was pleasantly surprised. She had me wanting to read more and more and her crime story had twists and turns with a bit of a love story gone, wrong. I feel for her character wanting her to realise her dreams but not yet it seems in this story so will have to read the next one.
