Gripping from start to finish

Lena Duschannes is a Caster who is living with her Uncle Macon Ravenwood in Gatlin, South Carolina, in the run up to her 16th birthday, the day she will be claimed either Light or Dark.

Summer Fluff – Great fun

Ok. I’m late to the party. I’ve seen the series kicking around for a while, it often came up in my recommendations, but the reviews were mixed and magic/witches/destiny stories don’t often appeal to me, I find they’ve been over done. But the movie came out and it looked good, and being the geek I am, I CANNOT watch a movie based on a book until I’ve read the book. I know. I’ll seek some help with that.

Beautiful and haunting

Ethan Wate lives in Gatlin, South Carolina and is counting the days until he can leave town. Gatlin is like most small towns – boring, predictable and totally lacking in surprises – that is until Lena Duchannes arrives in town. From the moment she moves in with her uncle (the town shut-in) in his massive supposedly haunted mansion Lena stands out. Ethan is inexplicably drawn to Lena, but he is about to discover she is hiding things from him – not just secrets, but mysterious powers and inescapable curses as well.

An Enchanting Story

Yesterday I finshed reading Beautiful Creatures. It had taken me just over a week to finish the book (I started it on the 1st Feb). To begin with I found it quite hard to get into, I wasn’t hooked from the outset like I have been with some books I have read, however regardless of that fact I have given it 4 stars as once the story got going it was a great read.

A good introduction to YA

I bought this book after watching the film (very good) and actually, I preferred some aspects of it to the book. I won’t say what exactly as I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but at times I thought the book dragged on a bit. As far as the storyline goes, I really liked it and Lena and Ethan are great characters, as are everyone else.

Brilliant!

I read this so fast! Twihards will love it, but its different enough that even if you hate sparkly vampires, this will still keep you turning pages furiously. I has the teeny bopper romance, but its done with dark mystery and more realistic relationship development than Twilight. I loved it for the different slant on magik and witches. Lena is a “natural” Caster and Ethan knows her from his dreams, and is compelled to help her cope with her struggles in learning to control her casting, and the upcoming terror of her 16th birthday, when she will discover if she is “light” or “dark! Believable characters, original witcheyness and hugely atmospheric, can not wait to read book 2!
