Car thieves are terrorising Sussex
A gang of vicious car thieves are smashing into rural properties and stealing expensive cars. Their violence is escalating and it is feared someone will soon be killed. The prediction comes true when Sir Mathew Markham, a prominent Brighton businessman is murdered.
Detective Inspector Angus Henderson can see differences between the methods employed by the car thieves and the way the victim died, but his bosses, the press and the general public believe it was the gang and are baying for justice.
The DI must go out on a limb to prove another murderer is responsible, but in doing so, he puts his own life on the line.

Strange Ending

 on 2 January 2018
By Linda
This was an interesting read – the plot was certainly very well devised and there were so many twists and turns, in places it was hard to keep up. It was one of those books where the opening chapter seems totally unrelated to the rest of the novel but deep down inside you know it will all come together, and naturally it did. So far, having read Iain Cameron’s first DI Henderson novel, I am still finding it hard to warm to the character – he does not seem to have much charm but I am ever hopeful that if I read another things may change. The story seemed quite slow going in places and at one point I did find myself bogged down in rather a lot of detail that in places I felt was not entirely necessary. However, towards the end the pace picked up as we started to get into the chase of the killer and the culmination was an explosive, albeit somewhat strange ending – having said that it was certainly not open-ended, more ironic. I can’t really fault the novel but did feel that I could only give it 4 stars as it was not one of the best I have read.

Sussex by the sea

This is a good read, is somewhat predictable with no real surprises. The Police procedures are well covered, but there is too much ‘filler’ in places that says the author ran out of story then had to backfill. This is often the case but Cameron made it rather obvious. Good setting, he obviously knows Sussex well and wonder whether he has the ingenuity to base one in Horsham.

D. I. Angus Henderson’s methods may upset the Big Brass but throughout this well written book his doggedness weaves through several subplots to an unexpected ending.
