Imagine being able to live wherever you want, travelling the world with everything you need in your own cosy home on wheels

Three years ago I was miserable. I’d sit at my desk every thinking ‘this can’t be it’. I felt like I was missing out, like there was so much more to life than going back and forth to a windowless office building every day feeling unfulfilled, uninspired and fed up.

I needed more. I wanted to explore the world, live in different places, meet different people and let every day be an adventure. I wanted the life I thought might be out there. Maybe you also feel like this from time to time?

My dream was get a van, make it into my full-time travelling home and break away. Off into the sunset. To be free, with the whole of Europe (and possibly beyond) as my garden. So that's what I did.

Now my life is very different. I live where I want, I do what I want, and travel and adventure are part of every day. I am free of my old shackled life. I decide when and where I work, how much I get paid and what I do with the rest of my time.

A van is freedom. It’s the new office. It’s the new home. And no one will be asking for rent

No one told me a life like this was even possible and my experiences over the last three years have exceeded my wildest dreams.

Which brings us to you and this book!

If you're tired of the daily grind, working flat out five days a week and then too deflated or exhausted to live it up at the weekend…

If you yearn to be the Captain of your soul, to live free, travel far and explore what life can truly offer you…

Or if you just want to escape in a campervan for a few weeks or months but don't how to make it happen, or if it's even possible…

Then this book is for you!

On the fringes of beautiful beaches, on high mountain roads and scenic country lanes there's a quiet revolution taking place.

All over the world people are rejecting the confines of urban life, of being hemmed in by other people's expectations and settling for daydreams of what could have been…

"The rise of the Van Dweller is more than a trend, it's a new way of life.”

You can now live anywhere you want. Van life represents a new kind of freedom. It's the new office, it's a life of adventure and it's the ultimate digital nomad experience.

This book will help you to shortcut three years of trial and error, hundreds of experiments, mis-adventures and tens of thousands of miles of experience.

You'll learn why all it takes is a single decision and how to take action and get started.

And once you commit to your new life of freedom this book can be your indispensable guide:

How to know if van life is for youHow to get started, key questions to ask to help you pick the right vanPractical solutions to the challenges you'll encounter as a van dwellerHow to get on the road and stay travellingWhat's life on the road really like, the highs, the lows, and the people you'll meet on the wayThe truth about Freecamping and how to comfortably live on £10 a dayHow to make money on the road, working remotely and independent revenue streamsHow to stay connected while living off the grid and on the road

This book is the result of my three year adventure as a full-time van dweller. It's been an amazing ride and one that will continue for years to come.

If you've ever dreamed of living your life on your terms, of controlling your destiny and creating a lifestyle based on freedom, choice and adventure then this book could be your essential first step.

My favourite campervan book

By Paul Hudson
Because we bought a camper last year I read a few campervan/motorhome books, presented from both a practical and an adventure perspective.

I occasionally spend slow times in the office scrolling through the vandog blog, day dreaming about getting out and doing some long term travelling myself.

When I saw this book I thought it was a little expensive but after downloading a sample I thought it was worth a shot. Having read it all now I can wholeheartedly recommend Mike Hudson’s latest book and believe it to be good value for money.

Mike is a genius; making sure that the book is easy to understand with all possible information needed to break free and enjoy travelling. Full to the brim with tips, including everything from internet coverage to how to save water. His attention to detail is second-to-none, making the book a treasure trove of information whilst still being fun to read. I love his honesty and down-to-earth approach, perfectly blended with precise instructions and website links and references. He’s a very clever and motivational person and I wish him many more exciting travels. I’ve done a lot of travelling myself and I’m planning to do more soon. Mike’s book has come along at just the right time as I’m going to be travelling in a van. Thanks Mike for writing such a wonderful book and being so generous in sharing what you’ve learnt along the way. I wish you much success and many more books and fun travels..you deserve to be happy and free. Diana. x

This book is exactly what I needed. Since reading it I have quit my job and chosen the van I want to live in. I am going to set off on my travels in January with my husband. Every single chapter was extremely helpful and insightful and made me think about things I would never have considered. Most of all, all of my wobbles and worries have totally dissapeared and have been replaced with pure excitement. Massive thanks to Mike, your courage and attitude is an inspiration. I hope to bump into you along the way!

An excellent book. Inspirational, clearly written and packed with practical info.

Clearly written and packed with indispensable info – as well as some salutary anecdotes. I’ve read several books on van living and they’ve all been focused on the USA, which isn’t a problem, but there are clearly some big differences. It’s great to read a book that deals with the subject from a UK / European angle. Highly recommended for anyone who’s thinking of taking the leap but isn’t sure if or when to jump. Be inspired.

Really enjoyable and inspiring

Well written, inspiring and thought provoking without being too “hippy”, a pleasure to read from start to finish.

Thoroughly enjoyable as well as extremely practical

I highly recommend this book to anyone, like me, considering taking to the road in a van. I really enjoyed the conversational style – I feel like I’ve had a beer with Mike on a beach, watching the sunset, discussing vanlife. He comes across as immensely likable and open in sharing his experiences. At the same time it is a great resource for answering the practical questions of what’s involved in getting and staying on the road. Some of the technical detail whizzed over my head but this is a great starting point for the technically challenged. I’m sure I will return to the maintenance chapter as an easy reference point on basic van knowledge which would have intimidated me before reading this book. After reading this book, I feel enabled, informed and motivated to take the next step.

Practical guide that doesn’t just lay it on about how good the life is

This is a very useful practical guide that doesn’t just lay it on about how good the life is it also highlights pitfalls and things to watch out for that offers alternatives to the full time van life lived by the author. Some good tips for modern living too – do you really need all that stuff you’re storing in the house?
