Hannah Phillips never intended to run. Chubby is cute was her motto and cake with pints of cider her diet. Then came 'the' fateful night that saw her staring awkwardly at a ‘fat bird’ with her top on. When that 'fat bird' turned out to be her very own reflection Hannah ran (quite quickly) to the toilets to wail in self-pity and humiliation. Hannah knew she had to make a decision, so she decided to lace up a pair of trainers she happened to have in the cupboard and head for the hills…or at least to the nearest park…if she could ever make it.
Chased by geese, the police and Jack Russel’s, No Run Intended is a small story about a big journey that follows Hannah’s running progress through good times, bad times and can’t be bothered times.
Deeply honest, insightful and a little bit funny, it’s definitely not a how to but a what if kind of book that celebrates running in all its beautiful, ugly glory.

Easy read, cheap and enjoyable. What is not to like?

I read running books usually with a heavy heart. I want to like them but usually the people who want to write about running usually grate on me.

Funniest book I’ve read in ages

I decided to read this book after seeing lots of recommendations from other runners. I have to say there aren’t many books that actually make me laugh out loud but this book was hilarious. It also has moments of poignancy – Hannah writes in such an open and honest manner and it is easy to feel that you are reading about someone you know well. As a runner at the beginning of my running journey, I could really relate to many of the things she was writing about. Recommended book for anyone who runs, anyone who wants to start running or anyone who has no interest in running at all but who does like to laugh!

Enjoyable read

An honest and open account of Hannah’s relationship with running. I did wish she had expanded on her work problems as well but I suppose it was deemed irrelevant to the books purpose and is probably me just being nosey. Also I’d have liked more detail on the trolling she experienced as I think people should be shown the effect negative words can have but also congratulations Hannah on not letting these things put you off

What a cracking read this is. It is hilarious, heartbreaking, a real joy. I was so disappointed when I came to the end. I cannot recommend this book too highly.

If I was ever going to read a book that I recognised myself in, it was this one. Funny, touching and honest it really is a terrific read, with laugh out loud moments. Ok so I’m an older mummy of an older man boy so running whilst having a small child is alien to me but toilet fails, chub rub and loss of mojo are all familiar to me.

Inspiring, entertaining and authentic

A witty and authentic commentary of a non-runner’s journey to running success. Writtten in beautiful colloquial Welsh Valleys English that adds to the story. Makes you laugh out loud and inspires you to get into your Lycra, get out that front door and get your booty moving. Hannah’s warm and self deprecating account of her trials and challenges is heart warming and honest. Can’t wait for the next instalment of her journey which will be release in Jan ’17

A Wonderful Book

A truly wonderful book, it’s not just a book about one woman’s journey from being overweight and inactive to being fit and confident enough to run a half marathon, Hannah tells her story wonderfully, its full of humour and moments of heartbreaking sadness, You get the impression that Hannah doesn’t take herself too seriously and she is always willing to take the Mickey out of herself, all in all its a fantastically uplifting book.
