Not a dummies guide. Excellent content

 on 18 May 2015
By Mark Lidster
This is not a dummies guide and goes into quite some depth in regards to the how the energy systems in the body react under various conditions. That said if you have a good background in sport and are keen to further that knowledge to improve yours or your client’s perfromance levels, this is an excellent book.

Strength and resistance programming fully outlined

By Fitness_foodie_UK
An excellent resource for learning the foundational aspects of long-term periodised planning as I expected from Tudor Bompa. Covers all aspects of resistance and strength based training in clear and easy to understand detail. Only problem is depsite being titled ‘for sports’ that not all varieties of sport are considered. Not too much on endurance sport or intermittent team based sports.

Great book

He is no bodybuilding expert, but why would he be with the wealth of high sports performance knowledge he has, the hypertrophy phase is merely used as a means to get to better places and phases in training. As for high performance elite training, and making sure you follow the right training methods in the right order, and how to go about doing it, this is the best book for clear and concise sound, tested and proven Sport Science. This book is even good for a Personal Trainer to use on clients and take them through a periodization cycle, and to get them from weak to elite in a professional manner. How many personal trainers do you see who will think about anatomical adaptations, to a conversion phase ? More times you will see PT’s doing things with their clients they are not ready for, and even using plyometric and elastic band training on a new client just to look interesting. This book makes you stop and think and to do things in the right way. This book is an integrals part of the studies to all personal trainers and coaches alike, it is a must buy and a must read.
