Fantastic book from novice onwards

I have followed Ruth since seeing her on GBBO series 1 and love her blog on Facebook and her website The Pink Whisk. I was very excited to hear that she had a book coming out and did wonder how I could justify another baking book when I have a shelf full of others, and yet make the same things time and time again! So was overjoyed when it was a guide on how to decorate a cake – just what I needed!!

Brilliant cake decorating guide

This book is brilliant for the ameture baker wanting to do a little bit more and be a bit more creative with their baking. It has a fantastic recipe guide that has different measures for your different sized tins, the chocolate cake recipe in this book is the best I’ve come across to date, I’ve never produced a dry cake from this recipe. The book also teaches you how to marzipan or butter cream coat a cake and then decorate with sugarpaste. I absolutely love this book, the recipe page is my most used part of the book, but I love going through the different baking ideas and tutorials. I would highly recommend this book for a gift to any ameture baker, they will love it.

A little gem…

I’ve really gotten into baking recently to the point where I’ve had friends and family start to ask me to make cakes for them for birthdays etc – I’m not always able to give them the time I would love to be able give, Ruth gives ideas based on the amount of time that you have and that is one of the best things about the book. The way the book is written is as if you have a little angel on your shoulder helping you along the way, with everything from basic piping techniques to Stacking a tiered cake

If you love baking then this book is ideal

I have been using Ruths site for a long time now and its always had great ideas. I do like books to keep though on the bookshelf.this one is full of great wee tips and especially good for helping to measure out for different sizes of cakes.

I love Ruth’s writing style. This book gives you countless tips and hints on how to improve things or save time. Great recipes (the chocolate cake especially) and they are all easy to follow. And I like all the different decorations that are mentioned. It covers lots of things you can bake with kids, too.

Saw The Great British Bake off and that is why I bought this book, wasn’t disappointed, you need to plough through the first part of the book, but as I am a novice cake decorator it was all informative to me, dont know if it would help experienced cake decorators much though. Love the little Barbie/Sindy doll throughout the book adds fun. And I like the way Ruth explains things. Found some really useful tips and instructions and overall would recommend this book to beginners.
