Charlie Fry is football mad. He sleeps wearing his team’s full kit and dreams of scoring the winning goal in an FA Cup final.

He plays football around the clock – at the park, on the way to school, at lunchtimes and even in his bedroom until his mum tells him off.

But Charlie has a problem: he can’t run very far. He has plenty of skill but his poorly lungs stop him from sprinting.

And as an 11-year-old planning to become the Golden Boot winner at the next World Cup, that’s a bit of an issue.

Then one day a freak accident presents Charlie with a unique goal-scoring gift – it means he can’t miss.

But can Charlie convince his local team Hall Park to give him the chance and use his new found skill to deadly effect?

Or will the nasty bullies from his school keep him stuck on the sidelines?

The Football Boy Wonder is a story about friendship, loyalty, believing in yourself, and, of course, football.

It is aimed at children aged 7-13. It looks at themes such as bullying, friendship, loyalty and the wonderful world of football.

A must read for young football fans

I bought this for my 11 year old son who absolutely loved it. I had been trying to bring the fun back into reading for him and I picked this for him as he’s a football fanatic. He loved it and wants me to buy the next one. He did mention though that there were a few typos, but that didn’t spoil it for him.

Thoroughly Enjoyable!!

A thoroughly enjoyable read for all the family. My 7 year old daughter loved this story. My 3 year old has enjoyed listening to bits of the story. And our 10 year old nephew who ‘hates reading’ could not put this book down . It’s not just for boys but a life lesson story about grit, determination, friendship and teamwork.

Think my grandson will love this as he’s football mad. I like the fact that bullying is part of this story as he has been subjected to some of this. I hope it will help him to realise that bullies are certainly not clever, they’re mean and cowardly.

My football mad eight year old Grandson loved the first book.He is dyspraxic so has problems with running as his legs are weak.In his head he is the best footballer in his school.I bought him three of the series of books and he cannot wait for the next chapter to read.Well done Martin Smith for writing such entertaining books.

A must read for all future football stars :). My 9 (almost 10) year old really enjoys it and so do I 😉 We read a book together before bedtime. The book is not just about football but also about not letting bullies stop you from achieving your dreams, positivity and hard work (if you want to be good at sth. you have to practice). We are already on the second book in the series! If your son/daughter plays football – it’s a must. Especially if they are not too kin on reading. This book should really make them want to read more as it’s something they can excited about and see themselves in it. Oh, and it’s got a little bit of magic in it too 🙂

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first instalment of the adventures of Charlie Fry. Everybody tries to chase their dreams when they are young and Charlie is no different – the story is brilliantly written and I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens next.
