Knee-deep in a swamp in the depths of the Bolivian jungle, hunting for anacondas in a pair of sandals, it occurred to George that perhaps he should have booked that all-inclusive honeymoon to the Maldives after all.

Join George and Rachel on their hilarious journey through the wilds of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, as they climb volcanoes, fish for piranhas, trek through the Amazon rainforest, take death-defying bus rides, sample some of the continent’s strangest delicacies, and try to get to Machu Picchu.

Armed only with a basic knowledge of Spanish, small backpacks, and bags of enthusiasm, they set off together on what promised to be a life-changing adventure.

Another brilliant read by George Mahood

 on 10 January 2018

Another brilliant book by George Mahooh. I had looked forward to it’s release for some time being a huge fan of George’s books and it didn’t let me down. Only ‘problem’ I read and finished it within a couple of days and now I suspect I have a long wait for the next. The book is filled with wonderful stories of his and Rachel’s travels and as usual at times made me laugh out loud. I have read all of George’s books and cannot recommend them including this one highly enough. George writes in such a way that I feel I travelled with him and Rachel and this book opened up an area of the world that I have never had a particular interest in but now would love to visit. George’s books are very ‘real’ and he has a fantastic sense of humour that shines through in his books. He can be self- deprecating but is very inspiring in this and all his books which in some ways seems to be because he does seem an ordinary bloke (no offence to George) who does extraordinary things and through his books allows the reader to be part of his trips. George always seems like a really nice man (even if his wife and children may not always agree). George is also very responsive to his fans and any messages/comments on Facebook he will always reply. Travels with Rachel is another brilliant book by an excellent writer and I highly recommend to anyone who has not read books by George – you will be hooked. I don’t need to recommend to his fans as they will already have bought and devoured it.

Brilliant!

Having been a fan since reading Free Country, I was not disappointed by this book. I love to travel and this has made me determined to visit South America some day. He paints a picture with his writing that makes it feel like you’re right there experiencing it with them. But the best part about George’s books is that they are absolutely hysterical! I was trying to read it quietly whilst my partner was sleeping, he did not appreciate the giggles that I could not suppress, tears fell regularly from my eyes from laughing so much. Such an enjoyable read, loved it so much I immediately downloaded another one of his books as I didn’t want the laughter to stop!

Oh, the pleasure of an e.mail from George saying “I’ve written another book “. AND it was almost Christmas, AND I was just starting to recover from the worst ever chest infection (I don’t think you have to have a chest infection to enjoy this book but I’m sure it helped my recovery).

Loved it. Very informative and funny.

REALLY enjoyed this book. I’m starting to plan a 6 month career break (Thank you Barclays!) and I found this book to be full of helpful tips, places of interest, information on hostels and invaluable information for travellers. George writes in a light-hearted way, and I’m sure he’d be a fab guy to know. Im planning 3 months travelling from Rio to Peru on the South American Gringo Trail. The places they visited sound right up my street. Like them, I’m travelling light with just hand luggage. Good to know it’s very possible. No 80kg rucksack for me! I googled every hostel they mentioned, for my research. Thank you George and Rachel for such an informative and funny book. I’m sure I’ll read it again and again in the next 6 months leading up to my own trip.

Yet another masterpiece by George Mahood. I don’t know if he is barking mad, very brave or both. Either way his latest book is even better than the previous. George never fails to entertain and this latest is laugh aloud funny. Well written and factual. Well done George and I hope many more to come in the future.

You haven’t lived if you haven’t found George’s books! (And No I’m not his Mumma!)

George is one of my favourite authors, he writes from his real life experiences in a very funny, readable way. This is his latest offering, and he writes about his trip to South America with his wife Rachel. It is laugh out loud funny. Check out his other books too..my favourites are Free Country and Not Tonight Josephine.

Another Cracker from Mr M.

Another cracking read from George. A pretty gentle pace and totally inoffensive in everyway, but gives a little bit more “Back Story” to George’s life. I read the book over a few nights of the Christmas holiday and my only complaint is that it could have been a wee bit longer.

Buy it, read it, love it. Rachel is awesome!

Having read all of George’s previous books I was eagerly anticipating this one…and I was not to be disappointed! From the laugh out loud moments George is so memorable for, to the lump in the throat descriptiveness of Manchu Pichau and the thrilling, somewhat stomach churning journey in between I loved every step of Travels with Rachel! George has really established himself as a great readable writer, one to return to again and again. Keep up the stirling work and I look forward to the next instalment.

Having enjoyed all of George’s other books I knew this one would be a treat. I didn’t want it to end and really hope he is going to write about his Australian adventures soon.

Wow! Another laugh out loud book by George mahood. I’ve read all his books and enjoyed reading and leading about his expeditions and family. This book is very well written and details his and Rachel’s honeymoon tour around south America. If you enjoyed Georges previous books, you will definitely enjoy this one.
